What is website maintenance?
Website maintenance is the ongoing work required to keep a live website secure, fast, and functioning: applying software and security updates, monitoring uptime and errors, taking and verifying backups, renewing domains and certificates, checking for broken links and forms, and making content changes. The scope varies substantially by platform. Plugin-based sites such as WordPress need frequent updating, whereas statically built sites have far fewer moving parts and correspondingly lighter maintenance needs.
The failures that happen quietly
Websites rarely fail dramatically. A contact form stops delivering after a mail provider changes something, and nobody notices for six weeks of lost enquiries. An SSL certificate lapses and browsers begin warning visitors away. A plugin update conflicts with another and breaks a page nobody visits daily. These are the failures worth monitoring for, because they are invisible from the inside and expensive from the outside.
Backups that have been tested
Most sites have backups. Considerably fewer have backups anyone has ever restored from, which means the assumption is untested at exactly the moment it matters. We keep versioned backups, verify that restoration works, and can roll a site back to a known-good state quickly. The value of a backup is entirely in whether it works under pressure.
Performance drifts unless someone watches it
A site launched fast does not stay fast automatically. Content teams upload large images, a marketing tag is added, a third-party widget slows the page, and six months later loading has degraded without any single decision causing it. We check performance regularly and flag drift while it is still a small correction rather than a project.
Changes handled without ceremony
New team member, updated service, price change, seasonal notice. Small changes should take hours, not a fortnight of quoting. Care arrangements include an allowance for exactly this kind of work, handled directly, so the site stays accurate. Sites drift out of date mostly because updating them is annoying, and that is a solvable problem.

Maintenance plans in the New Zealand market commonly run from about $50 to $150 a month for basic hosting and updates, and from about $200 to $800 a month for fuller care including content changes and performance work. Those are market ranges rather than AntCrow's prices. Statically built sites generally sit at the lower end because they have far fewer components requiring routine patching.
